Established in 2014 and based at Dublin City University. The club has won many league and cup titles and has represented Ireland at several European Champions League tournaments.

Heroes Cork represents Cork in the AIPF League. The club describes itself as a family that transcends the game, built on inclusion, empowerment and competitive spirit, and works to grow powerchair football throughout Ireland.

Lightning Powerchair Football Club

Established in 2013 and based in Northern Ireland, Lightning is dedicated to creating opportunities for people with physical disabilities to play powerchair football. Winners of the 2022 AIPF Shield.

Started by a group of parents in 2007 and officially launched in 2009. Around eight players train regularly across a range of ages and experience. Training is Tuesday evenings from 7pm at Corduff Sports Centre, and new players are always welcome to come and try the sport.

Competitions

The Premier League

An all-island competition running from around September to April. The most recent season featured eight clubs, playing to FIPFA laws. Heroes Cork are the most recent winners, taking the 2025/2026 season when they pipped Midlands United and Belfast Trailblazers to the top prize. Check the AIPF Instagram page for league fixtures and the most recent table.

The Championship

A development league designed to give developing players and clubs more game time in a competitive environment. The current title holders are Lightning Strikes, who finished ahead of Midlands United Thunder.

Cup competitions

The association has run an annual cup alongside the league since it was founded in 2009.

The international team

Ireland has represented at FIPFA level since joining in 2010, travelling to its first World Cup in Paris in 2011. Team Ireland currently consists of the Senior team and a development panel.
