New Team Ireland Head Coach confirmed

Following the recent announcement regarding leadership changes at the Association of Irish Powerchair Football, we are delighted to confirm the coaching team to lead Team Ireland in the next European Nations Cup cycle and 2030 World Cup campaign.

Daniel Gilbert is the new head coach of Team Ireland. Daniel led the team at the recent Home Nations tournament where team Ireland finished in second place behind favourite England. He was also part of the coaching team at the previous Home Nations as well as the EPFA Nations Cup in 2025.

Over the last year, Daniel has been involved in team Ireland and has shown great passion, commitment and knowledge of the game. He has handled himself and the team in keeping with the AIPF values of respect, excellence and belonging. We’re delighted that Daniel has made the step up and we can’t wait to see what he achieves with team Ireland over the next few years” – Emma Smith, Interim AIPF Chairperson.

Previous head coach Adam Crowle will remain as a coaching consultant with Team Ireland. The AIPF are also delighted to confirm that current Team Ireland coach Andy Carr will remain with Team Ireland to support Daniel.

“Firstly I would like to acknowledge Adam for his support. It has been great to work with him and I’m so glad that he will continue to be a sounding board for myself and the team going forward.
I’m also delighted to be able to continue to work with this group of players. The recent Home Nations tournament in Scotland proved we have a strong core team with great togetherness, this combined with the members of our development panel who want to take their places mean the future is looking positive for the team. I’m excited for what’s next.” – Daniel Gilbert, Team Ireland – Head Coach

Daniel and his team are busy putting preparations in place ahead of friendly matches later this year and a busy 2027 which will see Team Ireland participate in the annual Home Nations tournaments and potential EPFA Nations Cup qualifiers.

Domestically, the AIPF clubs get back into action in the autumn with the Remembrance Cup which takes place August 15th + 16th before the AIPF Premier League returns in September where Heroes Cork will be looking to retain the league they won on the last day of the season.
