Head coach Adam Crowle has named a strong and experienced squad to represent the Republic of Ireland Powerchair team at the EPFA Nations Cup taking place in Italy in September.
Fresh off a strong second-place finish at the Home Nations tournament in May, Ireland is hungry to improve on their bronze medal performance from the last EPFA Nations Cup in 2019. This year’s tournament carries even greater significance; it doubles as a qualifier for the 2026 Powerchair World Cup in Argentina.
The Squad consists of:
Emer O’Sullivan (DCU Storm) Captain
Sean Donogher (Midlands United & Muscle Warriors)
Thomas Donogher (Midlands United & WBA Throstles)
Matthew Crowley (Heroes Cork)
Aoife McNicholl (DCU Storm)
Naglis Montvilas (Heroes Cork & Villa LIons)
Liam Lynch (Heroes Cork)
Adam Crowle will be supported by coaches Daniel Gilbert and Andy Carr.
Together, these athletes bring an astounding 97 years of combined experience in Powerchair Football, having represented Ireland at numerous international tournaments—including the 2023 World Cup in Australia.
Head Coach Adam Crowle had this to say about his team: “I’m really excited about the team we’ve got representing Team Ireland at the EPFA Nations Cup. The team knows what it’s like to do well in this tournament, and we’re determined to go further this time.
They’ve put the hard work in and really dedicated themselves to this cause. I can’t wait to see what we all achieve together. ”
Julie Nicholson, AIPF Chairperson said – “This squad represents not just the incredible talent of our Irish para-athletes, but the resilience, dedication, and spirit of Irish sport at its very best. We are immensely proud of Team Ireland and our coaches as they prepare to take on Europe’s finest. The EPFA Nations Cup is a chance to showcase their agility, and the elite skill in Powerchair Football – we are confident this team will continue to inspire both on and off the court.”
The tournament will take place from September 19–24 at Bella Italia, Lignano Sabbiadoro. Ireland will compete in Group B, facing off against defending champions England, as well as Denmark, Scotland, and Italy. Other nations vying for glory include France (current world champions), Northern Ireland, Germany, Spain, and Belgium. The top five teams will secure their place at the 2026 World Cup.
