EPFA Nations Cup 2025

The Republic of Ireland Powerchair Football team delivered a spirited performance at the EPFA Nations Cup in Lignano Sabbiadoro, Italy this September. Entering the tournament with high expectations after a strong second-place finish at the Home Nations in May, the squad—led by head coach Adam Crowle—was determined to build on its bronze medal from 2019.

Ireland faced a challenging Group B lineup, including defending champions England, as well as Denmark, Scotland, and hosts Italy. The team battled hard in each fixture, earning praise for their defensive organization and ability to frustrate opponents. Their match against England was particularly notable; despite a narrow 1-0 defeat, Ireland’s disciplined approach kept the Para Lions at bay for long stretches, forcing England to rely on a well-worked set piece to break the deadlock. This performance underlined Ireland’s growing reputation as a tactically astute and competitive side on the European stage.

Although the results didn’t secure a podium finish this time, the tournament highlighted Ireland’s progress and ambition. With a squad boasting nearly a century of combined experience and a clear commitment to development, the EPFA Nations Cup was not just a test of ability but a showcase of the passion and resilience that define Irish powerchair football—a foundation on which they will undoubtedly build for future success.
