The third edition of the FIPFA World Cup took place in Kissimmee Florida in the summer of 2017. The Republic of Ireland team that participated would include from DCU Storm Aoife McNicholl, Emer O'Sullivan, Naglis Montvilas and Patrick Flanagan. It had been a challenge to get the team to FLorida on a financial level and logistic level to get the sports chairs there for the team to compete. The team were split into two flighy moments ts with the sports chairs eventually cleared to travel withfour players on each flight. The Republics first day was always going to be a tough start, facing both England and France. The team started well giving England a tough competitive start themselves and the 3-0 defeat flattered Irelands opponents. Unfortunately the second match of the day was a body blow with France running out 9-0 winners. Next up was Australia and the Republic were disappointing in another defeat this time 0-2. The team did get off to their first win of the World Cup when they deeated Canada 4-0 to qualify for a quarter final with the host team USA. Another lesson was given by the hosts with a 0-7 win and matching the team up with Uruaguay in a match to decide who would face off in the 5th/6th or 7th/8th placing game. The team pulled off a morale building victory over the south american opponents Uruaguay with the scoreline 2-0 at the end. Ireland's final game at the 2017 World Cup was against Japan, and they took the lead in the early moments of the game but this was shirt lived and the Japanese would claim the fifth position place with a 4-1 win. There was some consolation for the team in winning the FIPFA Fair Play award which was voted in by the Referee officials.
