Irish powerchair football was deeply saddened with the announcement of the passing of Mark Whelan after a brave fight over the past eighteen months with illness. The respect and fondness that the powerchair football community had for Mark at home and abroad was evident by all the comments and expressions of sympathy on social media. FIPFA international referee, Mark had officiated at the EPFA Nations Cup in Limerick in 2014, and the Champions Cup’s in Denmark in 2016 and 2018 and was of course a regular presence at the AIPF league and cup competitions and fun days. Mark will be greatly missed not only as a referee but for his infectious personality and his spirit of fun. RIP Mark Whelan.
